USEFUL TO KNOW

ROADHOLDER FORKS & FRONT WHEEL

‘Short Roadholders’ were fitted to all Dominators, M50 & ES2 models in the featherbed frame, and changed relatively little, until the very last years.  The yokes were widened in 1964, so the centre distance of stanchions, 7” went up to 7-3/8”.

In 1968, the threads changed to 18 TPI, to coincide with the introduction of the Commando, and a switch to Unified threads.

The hybrid AMC-framed models made in the late 1960’s used current Roadholder components, but usually had longer stanchions.  The Commando also had stanchions longer than ‘Short Roadholders’.  So-called ‘Long Roadholders’ were an earlier design of fork fitted to frames other than the Featherbed.  These forks represent the immediate post war design, and continued into the mid-50's, and have different components.1
