Some bikes left Meriden like this and were often justified by competition needs that would prevent the gearbox from being pulled forwards by the primary chain tension, under high power reversals. In todays world, where belt drives are fitted instead of a primary chain, the requirement exists for greater rigidity of the gearbox mounting.

This silencer clamp is a substantial design, suitable for clamping silencers on to pipes, on cars and motorcycles. It is based on a 1950's pattern, used on many motorcycles of that era, and can be re-used many times. It is simple to replace the 1/4-UNF bolt and nut, if ever needed. It is available in other diameters.
